Key points

  • US District Judge Zachary Bluestone dismissed the sexual abuse lawsuit filed by Ann Altman against her brother, Sam Altman.
  • The case was dismissed with prejudice after the plaintiff failed to attend an independent medical examination or meet court deadlines.
  • The judge denied Sam Altman’s request for attorney fees and costs following the dismissal.

US District Judge Zachary Bluestone dismissed a lawsuit on Tuesday that was filed last year by Ann Altman against her brother, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. The lawsuit alleged that Sam Altman had sexually abused his sister throughout her childhood.

According to the ruling, Ann Altman failed to appear for an independent medical examination or meet other court-mandated deadlines. The judge had previously issued warnings that failing to comply with these requirements would result in the dismissal of the case.

Bluestone granted the motion to dismiss the case with prejudice, which prevents the lawsuit from being refiled in that court. However, the judge denied Sam Altman’s request for attorney fees and costs.

When the lawsuit was initially filed, a statement released by Sam Altman, his mother, and his brothers addressed the allegations. The statement said, “Annie has made deeply hurtful and entirely untrue claims about our family, and especially Sam… All of these claims are utterly untrue. This situation causes immense pain to our entire family.”

Santos Perez, the lawyer who represented Ann Altman until withdrawing from the case this month, provided a statement to The Guardian. Perez stated, “I am no longer authorized to comment on this case but I continue to believe in Annie.”
